Whangaruru South Residents & Ratepayers Association Inc.
The Whangaruru South Residents & Ratepayers Association was formed to provide a ‘voice’ for the local community. It comprises both permanent residents and bach-owning visitors to the Bay. As a resident and ratepayer group, we represent the views and wishes of the community in our dealings with Council (WDC and NRC), as well as other government agencies. We endeavour to ensure that adequate resources are allocated to our community that will benefit the community as a whole. To do this, we work to build relationships with Council; in particular with our two representative councillors who regularly attend our meetings. Along with dealing with a number of issues that arise during the year, the Association also make submissions to Council on behalf of its members, including submitting to the Annual Plan and Long Term Plan.
Currently, the Management Committee is made up of 8 elected members from our resident community as follows:
- Norma de Langen (Chairperson)
- Guy Fuller (Vice Chair)
- Deborah Glasgow (Treasurer)
- Graeme Haydon (Secretary)
- Nena Rogers
- Mary Shields
- Jan Devereux
- Don Sale.
New members to the Committee are always welcome with elections taking place at the AGM scheduled in the second week of January in each given year.
The Bay also has a committee that closely aligns with the Association dealing with issues such as civil defence, fire fighting first response and first aid emergency response. The Whangaruru South Civil Defence Committee is made up of various volunteer members and holds its own meetings. A member regularly reports back on developments at the WSRRA committee meetings. The Whangaruru South Civil Defence Committee is also actively looking for more community volunteers to ‘share the load’ amongst the various response teams. Please contact us if you wish to volunteer in any capacity or require any further information.
