Social Activities

Permanent residents, along with some of the Bay's frequent holiday-makers, enjoy a wide range of activities and interests on a regular basis. As well as enjoying the benefits of a range of physical activities, participants also enjoy catching up with old friends and sometimes making new ones. Everyone is welcome to attend any or all activities.

Friendship Group, Oakura Bay, Northland
FRIENDSHIP GROUP

Strictly for the ladies, the Friendship Group gets together for a convivial chat over lunch every third Monday of each month at 11.30am. The venue is currently the Gallery Cafe at Helena Bay.

The lunch provides an opportunity for current and past residents of the Bay to get together, as well as an opportunity for new residents to meet others. Many of the Bay’s past residents also make the trip from Whangarei to catch-up with old friends.

Whangaruru Tramping Club
WHANGARURU TRAMPING CLUB

For those in the community who enjoy tramping and possess a reasonable level of fitness, the Whangaruru Tramping Club organises regular walks in the surrounding area, as well as further afield, eg Pukenui Forest. Weather dependent, these tend to occur fortnightly throughout the year (with the exception of the summer holiday season) and cater for all ages. However, the tramps do range in length and level of difficulty – so best to check first. Details of each tramp are sent out via email. For safety reasons, those tramping need to notify their attendance by return email to the organiser. Transport arrangements can also be arranged at this time.

Twice yearly, members enjoy an organised trip away where they have the opportunity to stay and socialise in a different part of New Zealand; whilst enjoying a number of walks in the area. To find out more and/or be added to the email list, please contact Raewin Woodhouse – Phone (09) 4336 642 or Mobile 022 0829336 or visit the Facebook page here.
