The Oakura Bay community is very fortunate to have some great amenities – including a community hall, store and takeaway. A sports field services the local rugby playing community with the addition of a rugby clubroom currently under construction. Nearby local maraes are also available for bookings.

SPORTS FACILITIES AND RUGBY CLUB
The Council owned reserve at the end of Wharua Road, Oakura contains a single rugby field used by the Whangaruru Rugby Football Club (Whangaruru RFC). Along with the field, a new clubroom with changing facilities is currently under construction to replace the previously inadequate porticom facilities that were being used on the site.
On behalf of WDC, the Whangaruru Community & Sports Association is the administrative body. Generally, it is felt that the new facilities will serve all community members and allow for the promotion of healthy and physical sporting pursuits.
For more information on the Whangaruru RFC, contact Hepi Haika on mobile 027 475821 or email email@example.com
